Women aren't the only victims of domestic violence. Men are as well. we don't hear about it as often as we do about women because men very really report it. Some thought Perry was weak because he was abused by his wife, but in reality he is a very strong man because he didn't hit her back. Perry knew he could severely hurt his wife had he struck back, so he continued taking the abuse and never retaliated. Lorie had some serious issues and took it out on her husband.Even though they were not together I truly believe that Alicia saved Perry. Like most women who are victims of abuse and don't leave their abuser, I believe that Perry was a man who would have continued to stay not for the sake of his wife...
Ancelli conveyed very well that women aren't the only victims of domestic violence. There are those heart jerking moments as I have come to expect for Ancelli, those keep you at the edge of your seat moments that I love when I'm reading a good book. I loved P&A's story.

I've read all of Ancelli books and I love them. This book proved, for me, very thought provoking in the sense that it's about domestic violence and not about a women being violated against. This is a whole role reversal and it's true men can become victims of domestic violence because you have some men that are just too gentlemanly to hit a women and sit there and take what that woman dishes out especially for the sake of the children in the house.
So this is the story of Perry, Alicia and Lorie. Perry and Alicia are high school sweethearts that after years together decide (unwisely) to call it quits after a misunderstanding. In walks Lorie and after a one minute wonder, Perry is forced to step up to the plate and take care of the baby that he has with Lorie. Unfortunately, this is a disaster because he is still in love with Alicia. In the midst of all of this there are children involved, he has one child with Alicia and one with Lorie and unfortunately Lorie is very abusive to Perry and the children see what is happening, maybe not all of the abuse but some of it. I'm glad that it has an HEA but truthfully most domestic violent cases don't have one. This was a very good read.
I am a huge fan of Ancelli and this book did not disappoint. I love that the stories are grounded in real life. Perry and Alicia were high school sweethearts that went through a lot - In their down period - Perry is preyed upon by Lorie who is an abusive woman and she traps him by getting pregnant in purpose to force marriage. From there Lorie's abusive nature comes out. Perry and Alicia went on a wild roller coaster ride to get back together and were pushed along by their daughter, Perry's Aunt Lola (special twist there) and Alicia!s parents. Great book - definitely worth your time!
"How did it happen to me? How did I get here? I must keep this from my children. If people find out they will say I am weak." Those were all comments that were made not by the heroine but the hero in this awesome story.
Perry was a strong alpha male who was in love with Alicia since he was 17. However, after there relationship hit a couple of severe snags, it all fell apart.
Alicia had fallen in love with Perry when she was a cashier at her 1st job. A driven self confident lady who had dreams, but got side tracked after she fell in love.
Theirs is a story of what happens when you don't communicate enough. Perry married a woman who manipulated and reigned down terror in her household. She was a product of abuse in her childhood. An unlikely person becomes the victim in a marriage of convenience. Can Perry escape? Will Alicia be able to right a wrong committed so long ago?
Secrets are revealed and a life is lost because persons looked the wrong way..
Great read, that kept me on the edge of my seat and rooting that love and God would make a way out a possible no win situation...
This book was so good and well written I truly enjoy Ancelli' s work and this book did not disappoint. Perry's story was a real eye opener for those who may seem doubtful about domestic violence against happening to men. Ancelli tells Perry story with such depth and emotion that it really makes you think and feel and experience the male victims side of domestic violence. I enjoyed this story from beginning to end it had everything drama, misunderstandings, secrets, forgiveness and second chances. I really loved Perry and Alicia's family and how they were so supportive of the two. A good read to the very last page.
This story is completely about domestic violence and Ancelli if you keep making me cry I will not keep buying your books lol just kidding!!! This book was amazing from the beginning to the end.
Perry was in love with his long time love Alicia. As most couples do they were young and thought they could make it. A lot of couples today don't communicate enough and that was their problem that lead to a massive breakup and argument.
Alicia accepted a job in Chicago and Perry pride was to high to tell Alicia how he really felt about her so instead of fighting for her he let her go and made the worse mistake of his life. He was down and out and hooked up with a psycho who abused him in every form of the meaning.
Perry was a known fighter and could box but he would not hit a woman because he was raised not to and so he took the abuse. Lorie the psycho was the woman he married always threatened to take away their daughter if he ever left her because she knew his true love was Alicia.
But in the end secrets caused problems and hate tried to win out but in the end will love bring them together!!! This is a wonder story. At first I had my doubts because I didn't know if I wanted to read a book on domestic abuse and glad I gave this book a chance!! Thank you Ancelli for sharing this story!!!
